When I was waiting for my mission call, I knew I would be down to the post office every single day checking our mail box, so I asked LaRee (our post office lady) to call me as soon as it got in! Just 2 1/2 weeks later I got my phone call and it was here!! I grabbed the keys, grabbed my Mom and raced down to our tiny cute post office!
I had to wait a few days for the weekend so my family could be there with me. It finally came and it was time to open it! I
knew that there would be two little words in there that would change my life, and
tell me where the Lord was sending me and where I would be serving for the next
year and a half. Most people guessed
that I was going to Utah, even I myself for sure thought I was going to Salt
Lake or some where in Utah! Not sure why haha but I was super excited to serve there! (read more below)
I love our cute little post office :)
LaRee, our cute little post office lady!
Well I opened my call, I didn’t want to read ahead so I put a paper over it to read just one line at a time. I was a little nervous so I ended up pulling up the paper half way on accident. I couldn’t help but glance down and the first words I read were “Hungarian Language”. My first thought was: ‘That was not a language they spoke in Utah!’ haha So I went back up to the top and read the letter which said; “Dear Sister Schnoor, you are hereby called to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. You are hereby called to labor in the Hungary Budapest Mission.” My Mom let out a scream, then screamed again, this time a lot more excited! She then tried to tell me something, but I couldn’t understand her at the time with all the commotion and excitement going on, but later found out what she was trying to tell me was that my great grandfather is full Hungarian and that lots of my family originated from Hungary, which I didn’t know until after I opened my call.
I
felt the spirit so strong there when I opened my call. Learning about my
ancestors was just another testament to me that mission calls are inspired of the Lord. I knew instantly that the Lord had called me to serve a
mission in Hungary. I know it may sound silly, I’ve never been to Europe, but I
felt and still do feel such a strong love for the people living there. I can’t
wait to serve them and teach them about our Savior Jesus Christ.
